So You've Caught Baby Fever
The latest thing going around isn’t a cold – it’s Baby Fever!
Babies and pregnant bellies seem to be everywhere. Perhaps there is something in the water?
It may feel that you are the only one in your friend or work circle to not be displaying a baby bump, but if you look a bit harder, you’ll see it’s (probably) not true. Even if you weren’t planning a baby any time soon, the thought may be creeping in with every baby shower invite you receive.
Are you ready for a baby? Are you ready for a second (or third) baby? Does it even matter once that Baby Fever hits?
It can be all-consuming to start craving a pregnancy. It takes over your thoughts and drives you directly to the infant clothing selection at your local boutiques and stores!
What is Baby Fever?
It used to be thought that Baby Fever was purely dictated by a woman’s age and hormone levels. Once her fertility ‘time clock’ started ticking the months off, producing different surges of hormones, her uterus was actually thought to twinge and trigger the brain to want to fill it! This process wasn’t thought to be ‘contagious,’ as it was explained away by ‘simple science.’ However, in today’s world, women are having children at much later ages as compared to this original theory of late twenties to early thirties, which begs us to question that original science.
Is it that women are beginning and continuing careers, delaying marriage (as compared to decades ago), and pursuing other goals that has changed? Absolutely. We know now that becoming pregnant into the late 30’s and even early 40’s isn’t as crazy as it was once thought to be! When a woman is more focused on other priorities, starting a family isn’t at the forefront of her mind.
The latest theory, according to science, is that it may not actually be a biological clock that signals wanting a baby. It may come down to personality. If a woman has a more nurturing personality, she is more likely to experience Baby Fever. While typically it is experienced by women, men too can feel the yearning to become a parent! Again, it occurs with men who also share that wanting to take care of and pass down their love and passions.
All of this to say, we believe that Baby Fever can simply occur from holding a sweet newborn or watching loved ones grow those baby bellies! We believe it is absolutely contagious and can be experienced by women (and men) of all personalities and ages! Science should always be questioned, right? How about we just throw this science away and enjoy watching families be created – or expanded!
