Faking a Pregnancy is NOT a Joke

While our general audience is a slew of ages, most are already parents.  I have faith that you know not to prank anyone today about a pregnancy.  Although, I have seen many (TOO MANY) repeat parents post April Fool's pregnancy announcements, or 'Oops it looks like it's twins instead of one!" type posts.

You do not have to have had a miscarriage to understand. You do not have to have been trying unsuccessfully to conceive to understand.  A good person just gets it. A baby is a life, and even though you are not in the market for a real baby right now, so many couples are.  This is about respecting them, and about respecting life.

This is not a harmless joke. Let the thought flutter right back out of your mind without acting on it, please. Let's show our maturity today and think before we act.

My hope is that this post reaches the generation right under us.  Those in high school, college, and young adults.  Those who do not yet understand why a pregnancy April Fool's joke is not funny.

Pregnancy jokes can ruin friendships -and relationships.  That's right,  a perfect boyfriend may not think it is very funny if his girlfriend pretends to be pregnant.  On that thought, the same can be said in the reverse order.  A smart girlfriend will not think it's funny if her boyfriend announces a baby is on the way to his friends.

I recall several college friends pulling this prank over the years.  One pulled it off so well that she was pulled in by the board of a sorority to explain herself, and she was given a warning with threat of probation.  This is NOT a funny joke.

This prank becomes more dangerous the older you get.  As a young adult, you are likely to disrespect coworkers, family members, and friends who are at a different point in their lives.

By simply allowing today to roll by without a pregnancy joke, you are showing a sign of maturity and, even more so, a sign of kindness.

Please be kind.
